Due to a safety risk that required the immediate removal of the centre light poles at the Pakenham Regional Tennis Centre, Council is currently undertaking a project that will see the installation of new court lighting at the facility. Unfortunately, the remaining lights are not sufficient to support evening or night-time play as they do not meet current safety and compliance requirements.
Under these conditions, the courts cannot be used for competition, training, or recreational activity during times when sports lighting would normally be required to ensure safe play. As a result, coaching sessions can only operate during periods where there is sufficient natural daylight.
This means that weekday early afternoon sessions and weekend coaching will continue as normal. However, late afternoon and evening sessions will be temporarily impacted throughout Terms 2 and 3, with further information to follow.
At this stage, court usage during April is expected to be possible until approximately 6:00pm, although this may vary slightly depending on daily light conditions. This timeframe will be reviewed as daylight hours change across the season.
The Aligned Leisure team is currently exploring options to minimise disruption and support players to continue their development during this period. Further details regarding any schedule adjustments and the options available for affected players will be shared over the coming weeks.
While we understand this may cause some temporary inconvenience, the completed upgrade will provide a significantly improved lighting system, enhancing night‑time playing conditions and benefiting the entire tennis community into the future.
