Learn to Swim

Cardinia Life offers a holistic swim lesson program, offering over 400 classes across 7 days over 44 weeks of the year. Cardinia Life has partnered with Royal Life Saving to provide our community with a nationally recognised program that has a water safety focus – Swim and Survive.

Our Program

The program has been updated to align with the recently released National Swimming and Water Safety framework. Swim and Survive is a comprehensive swimming and water safety initiative that seeks to increase the swimming and water safety skills of all Australian children in order to prevent drowning and increase participation in safe aquatic activity.

Learn to swim, swimming lessons and infant aquatics are all terms commonly used across the aquatic industry for programs that seek to build swimming skills. Swim and Survive is all of these, but most importantly it ensures that the essential components of personal survival and water safety are provided, in addition to a process of developing strong and effective swimming technique.

Swim nappies must be worn by children who still wear nappies outside the pool.

Swim Captains are there to answer any questions you have about your swimmer’s progress or about our program, and to support our Swim Teachers to provide great lessons. They love to talk swimming, so please see them if you have any queries.

The Swim Captain on shift acts as the communicator between you and the Swim Teacher so that the teacher can concentrate of the delivery of the class.

We provide all the equipment and teaching aids you and your child need to have a great, fun lesson. Just remember to bring a towel & some warm clothes.

On average, it takes around 20 lessons to achieve the next certificate, but sometimes it can take a little longer. Every child is different, and it’s important for parents to remember that some skills will come easily to their child, while others will be a little more challenging.

If your swimmer has been at the same level for a while or is finding a skill a little difficult, our Swim Captain will talk to you about some strategies to help them move forward and will be working with your Swim Teacher to ensure your swimmer continues to progress.

The Swim Teacher will recommend your swimmer for assessment by the Swim Captain if they believe that the swimmer is consistently, confidently, and competently performing all the skills necessary to achieve the level they are in.

If you believe your child is ready, please see the Swim Captain on duty to request an assessment.

If your child is sick & misses a lesson, please call the centre to notify them & book them in for a makeup lesson. If there are no suitable times & you have a medical certificate, a credit can be applied. In the absence of a medical certificate, no credit will be applied.
