Discovering Calm! Highlights from Our Kids Yoga Sessions

This September school holidays, we hosted two delightful Kids Yoga Sessions tailored for children aged 5-8 and 9-14 years. Under the expert guidance of Melinda, our qualified Children’s and Adults Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist (and Registered Nurse!), the kids explored the world of yoga in a fun and engaging environment. 

Melinda’s classes blended traditional yoga techniques with therapeutic practices, making it easy for children to connect with the material. Each session was packed with a variety of activities, including: breathing exercises, yoga poses from downward dog to tree pose, games and partner work as well as self-reflection. 

The feedback from our young participants was heartwarming. Many expressed that they had fun and experienced a range of positive emotions afterward, including: calmness, relaxation, happiness and increased confidence – especially with the challenging poses like tree pose! 

Engaging in yoga provides numerous benefits that help children grow both physically and emotionally. Some of the key advantages include: 

  • Calmness and focus: Helps children manage stress and concentrate better. 
  • Improved flexibility and fitness: Promotes overall health and physical well-being. 
  • Confidence boost: Accomplishing new poses fosters self-esteem. 
  • Enhanced social skills: Working with peers strengthens communication and teamwork. 
  • Emotional and mental regulation: Teaches kids how to navigate their feelings effectively. 
  • Better sleep and digestion: Contributes to overall wellness. 
  • Improved posture and body awareness: Encourages a healthy understanding of their bodies. 

To celebrate their achievements, each child received a Certificate of Participation at the end of the class. We witnessed their joy as they left, having made new friends and created lasting memories.
