Sunshine and Community Spirit Shine at 2026 Cardinia Fun Run, Walk and Colour Run
Sunshine and community spirit welcomed 567 runners, walkers and young colour runners to Deep Creek Reserve in Pakenham on Sunday 1 March for the 2026 Cardinia Fun Run/Walk and Colour Run.
Held on a warm and humid morning, the event brought together runners, walkers, families and spectators for a vibrant celebration of health, wellbeing and community connection. From seasoned runners chasing personal bests to families strolling the course with their dogs, and children excited to take part in the colourful fun run, the day truly had something for everyone.
The event continues to grow each year, with participation reaching an impressive 567 registrations in 2026. Even more significantly, the day helped raise more than $21,000 for the Cardinia Community Foundation, supporting local families and community groups in need across the Cardinia Shire. The generosity shown by participants, sponsors and supporters highlights the strong community spirit that makes this event so special.
The 10km race attracted the largest field, with 175 entrants taking part, while 130 participants joined the 5km run and 131 registered walkers took part in the 5km walk. The event’s flat, soft course continues to appeal to participants of all abilities, including those chasing a new personal best or simply enjoying an active morning out with the community.
A welcomed addition to this year’s event was the Kids 2.5km Colour Run, which proved to be a huge hit. A total of 131 young participants dashed through bursts of colour, with plenty of laughter and bright smiles as they enjoyed the messy fun in the sunshine.
Beyond the course, the atmosphere around Deep Creek Reserve was buzzing with activity. Spectators lined the course offering cheers and encouragement, while families enjoyed a variety of off-course entertainment. Highlights included a wildlife visit from Gumbuya World featuring snakes, food trucks and a Scouts sausage sizzle to keep everyone fuelled. The Cardinia Leisure Street Team also kept younger visitors entertained with lawn games and activities, while a raffle added to the excitement of the day.
The event was proudly supported by a number of generous sponsors whose contributions helped make the day possible. Montague Farms provided fresh fruit for participants at the finish line, while Bellevue Farm Gate refreshed runners with Summer Snow Drinks. Their support, along with prize donations from sponsors, helped reward participants and keep runners energised after crossing the finish line.
Feedback from participants and supporters has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their appreciation for having such a well-run and enjoyable community event right here in Pakenham.
With another fantastic event wrapped up, we are already looking ahead to 2027, with plans to make the Cardinia Fun Run and Colour Run even bigger and better. The event continues to bring people together in the spirit of community, health and fitness while supporting an important local cause and helping build a stronger Cardinia community.
