Aligned Leisure’s Supported Access Program provides access to programs and services for local people experiencing health inequalities whilst under financial stress and hardship.
The program provides an opportunity for people who cannot afford to participate in our programs the ability to become healthier and more active whilst making connections within the local community. As well as the health benefits of being physically active, there are also emotional and social benefits for participants, including reducing isolation, increasing confidence and helping to develop a greater independence.
Aligned Leisure committed $20,000 in July this year to fund the program, which has assisted more than 40 families, enabling them to be able to access Swimming Lessons, Aquatic memberships and Health and Wellness memberships.
Carly Mitchell and her children are one family that have been assisted by the Supported Access Program. Carly is a single mother of Sienna, Kade and Brodie, who are all enrolled in our Learn to Swim program. When asked about the program the kids said in one big loud voice, “We love it because it is fun!” Not only has the program enhanced the children’s swimming ability, but it has given them a greater quality of life through social engagement and personal confidence.
