Jacque Rice is our wonderful volunteer at Cardinia Life who creates a strong link between the members and staff. Jacque runs the weekly Heart Foundation walking group, walking every Thursday morning around the area. What started with just a group of 2 or 3 has now grown to having over 12 people most days, and the group will walk rain, hail or shine, guided by the lovely smiling Jacque! They will usually walk a few laps around the lake or the local area and of course always finish up with coffee at Frankie’s!
Jacque grew up in Traralgon and has always been into sports. As a child she played netball, basketball, tennis and waterpolo, however her greatest achievements were with the Traralgon Swimming Club where she swam competitively, reaching the Nationals. Her strongest stroke was Butterfly and she used her knowledge to work as a swim teacher while studying at university. Jacque now loves to do the Aqua Movers class at Cardinia Life most mornings in the week, and has been a member for over 7 years since she moved to Pakenham.
Jacque said “I love the vibe at Cardinia Leisure, staff are friendly and the ladies I have met along the way have created a sense of connection with lots of laughter, lunches, morning teas, and exercise too ofcourse! Some great friendships have been formed. I love hearing others life stories too… and the travelling that some do makes me so desirous!”
Not only does Jacque volunteer at Cardinia Life, she also keeps herself busy and active by volunteering at her son’s school on the PTFA, and at a local tennis club, as well as running the school’s secondhand uniform shop. “One day I hope to resume employment in Human Resource Management, but in the meantime I love volunteering as it provides a sense of purpose, helps me stay physically healthy, I enjoy creating meaningful connections and also offers a chance to give back to the Community.”
Adrianna, Elaine, Phyllis, Jacque, Irene & Lynette are pictured below ready to head off on their walk.
The Heart Foundation walking group is a weekly free activity lead by Jacque. If you would like to join in, meet Jacque in the foyer at 9.30am each Thursday.
