We are very lucky to have so many amazing members here at Cardinia Life so we have decided to share some of their stories. For this edition of People of Cardinia we hear from our member Irene Laverick. Irene joined Cardinia Life in 2017 and it has helped her through some challenging times. Check out her story below.
“After my husband passed away and having only recently shifted into the Pakenham area, I was looking for something that would give me the opportunity to have an outside interest and to meet local people. With my love for swimming, I decided to give Aqua at Aligned Leisure a try for both the exercise component and hopefully the social aspect. Almost immediately I was welcomed into the group. This has resulted in many coffees after the sessions, morning teas, luncheons, friendships made and lots of laughs. Of late, our social activities have expanded to movie visits, a trip to Geelong to view the Archibald prize paintings, lunches at William Angliss College and 11 of us went on a 6-day cruise in early 2019. I have joined the Heart Foundation Walking group on Thursday morning, also organised through the centre, which apart from the walk and chat, we always end up at a local cafe for a coffee together!! I am also just about to travel to Europe to meet up with a friend I have made from the group and to travel on a 14 day River Cruise. I am so glad that I made the choice to come along on that first morning and I am indebted to my fellow Aqua members and the staff at Aligned Leisure for the support and friendship that has been extended to me. “
Irene is currently in Europe with her friend and fellow Cardinia Life member Maureen Barlow but has ensured us that they have still maintained 20,000 steps a day. We wish you both a safe & fun trip and we will see you both when you return.
