Family Violence awareness month

May marks Australia’s Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Month. It is a time for all of us to speak up about domestic violence and to raise awareness of this devastating but common issue.

Domestic and Family Violence is not always physical, it can be financial, emotional or social abuse, there are many different forms of Domestic or Family Violence however they are all used to control a person and their actions.

Domestic violence can happen to anyone and it is present in every community, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, socioeconomic status, religion, or nationality. It can happen anywhere; in your own home or even at your workplace.

The COVID-19 lockdown period saw Family Violence incidents increase by 9.4% in Victoria so now more than ever it is vital that we start conversations and raise awareness about family violence.

Earlier this year all our leaders at Cardinia Life completed Communicare’s free elearning course ‘Prevention of Violence against women for the workplace’ to further develop our leaders understanding of the causes, types and impact of family violence and violence against women.
