Everybody knows that most boys and girls get their first taste of football through Auskick, but did you know that both Basketball and Netball have similar programs for the little ones? Better yet, they run all year round!
NetSetGO is the official Netball Australia junior entry netball program. The program provides children from 5-10 years with a positive introduction to netball, incorporating skill activities, minor games, music, dance and modified matches. Delivered in a fun and safe environment, the weekly program is coordinated by accredited coaches to ensure all participants have an enjoyable experience, while developing fundamental life skills.
The program consists of two tiers – ‘Net’ and ‘Set’. The recommended ages for the ‘Net’ program are children aged 5-7 years, with the ‘Set’ program catering for 8-10-year-olds. Your coaches will advise if they think your child needs to be in a particular program.
Cardinia Life runs the ‘Net’ program on Wednesday afternoons from 4pm and the ‘Set’ program on a Monday afternoon from 4pm

This August is Watch Around Water Awareness Month at Cardinia Life. Below is the Watch Around Water Policy which is enforced at all Cardinia Leisure facilities.
Watch Around Water Policy
Cardinia Leisure facilities has in place a ‘Watch Around Water’ policy which applies at Cardinia Life and the seasonal pools within the Cardinia shire. This policy relates to parental/guardian supervision of children at all times. The basics of this policy are as follows:
Please be aware of these additional important aspects of the "Watch Around Water" policy which applies at Cardinia Leisure's aquatic sites:
- Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied into the facility by a responsible adult 16 years and over and actively supervised at all times while in the facility. If children are unsupervised they will be removed from the water.
- Children under 5 yrs must be accompanied into the facility by a responsible adult 16 yrs and over and be supervised within arm’s reach at all times while in the facility. If children are not within arm’s reach of their parent or guardian at all times, they will be removed from the water.
- Children ages 5 to 9 will be issued a wrist band which must be worn at all times.

- Groups won’t be admitted where the number of parents/guardians supervising a group of children under 5 years exceeds 1:4.
- Groups won’t be admitted where the number of parents/guardians supervising a group of children aged 5-9 years exceeds 1:10.
- Children under 5 years won’t be admitted without a fee paying parent/guardian, (or a responsible parent/guardian card holder in the case of swim school members) who is prepared to enter the water.
- For children 10 years and older, parents must use knowledge of the child’s ability and development to determine supervision level.
- Children 5-9 years will need to visit reception to be issued with a wrist band before entering the water.
This month is Energy Reduction Awareness Month at Aligned Leisure.
Here in Cardinia we believe that we all have a role to play in reducing our environmental impact, and there are some easy ways we can achieve this both in the workplace and around the house.
Already at Cardinia Life, the Cardinia Shire Council have invested in responsible ways to reduce energy consumption:
- Reduced food wastage.
- Sophisticated heating and cooling functions.
- Cogeneration gas and electricity technology.
- Energy efficient lighting.
- Water harvesting and recycled water options.
Whether you’re looking to save money or simply decrease your carbon footprint, reducing your energy consumption is actually quite simple. With a few small adjustments, you can be a positive influence on the environment and help to reduce the amount of energy consumed by your community. By switching up your habits just a bit, you’ll be well on your way to a low-energy lifestyle.
Throughout April we will be coming to you with different ways to reduce your energy consumption - Stay tuned!
Doxi has recently joined us as our Head of Fitness and Programs. Doxi comes with years of experience in the health and wellness industry and we are very excited to see the impact she can have here in Cardinia. Join us in welcoming Doxi to our team and learn some more about her below!
Head of Fitness and Programs
I grew up coaching, playing and refereeing basketball. My passion for sport led me to a degree in Exercise and Sport Science. I progressed into high performance sport and worked as a Sport Scientist at the Victorian Institute of Sport. In this role I had the opportunity to work alongside talented athletes and coaches including Olympians, World Champions and Paralympians.
From here I moved into aquatics and recreation, and for the past 6 years I have enjoyed making a difference to the lives of everyday heroes. My background is in Personal Training, where I support people to transform their lives for the better! Moving forward I hope to make my contribution to Cardinia Life recognised through programs that will increase the health and wellbeing of our community.
FAVOURITE GROUP FITNESS CLASS:
Bodybalance – I really enjoy the combination of Yoga with Tai Chi. I always feel calm with a wonderful sense of wellbeing afterwards!
FAVOURITE EXERCISE IN THE GYM:
Deadlifts! It’s such a key component to building overall body strength. Everyone should be doing them.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU:
Anyone who challenges themselves to be better; take that step and work outside your comfort zone. I think that applies to all aspects of our lives.
SOMETHING PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU:
I have been to the European Training Centre in Varese, Italy as a member of the support staff for National teams. It’s a pretty awesome environment and I have such respect for the level of discipline displayed by athletes, and the sacrifices from their families.
If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you!
INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF CARDINIA LIFE:
Camping, fishing and tickle fights with my kids.
It is with great pleasure we would like to introduce to you our head of Sports & Stadium, Dean Jamieson. This crucial role will lead the stadium sports programs and drive participation in in all sports. Dean has been with us since March and has already implemented two new much-loved programs; Mini Dribblers and All Abilities Aussie Hoops.
I grew up as a sport enthused kid with a passion for Football and Basketball. I played football and basketball up until about 4 years ago where injuries forced me to give them up. Which has now allowed me to focus heavily on my family and my career. My love and passion for sport is the reason I got into the sport & leisure industry.
In 2005 I completed my traineeship at Baseball Victoria, before moving into the Competitions Manager role until 2009. I then moved into an Assistant Operations Manager role at Action Indoor Sports Doncaster, progressing into the Operations Manager role. Finally, earlier this year I was appointed as Head of Sports & Stadiums for Cardinia Leisure.
What are you most looking forward to in your new role:
While in this role I am looking forward to working with the Cardinia Shire, and particularly the local sports associations who use the facilities such as; Pakenham District Basketball Association, Pakenham Netball Association and Pakenham Floorball Association. I am also looking forward to working with and meeting all the clubs that play at our facilities. My aim is to help grow and develop the programs that we currently run in the stadium, but also to develop programs outside of Cardinia Life and to bring sporting opportunities to the Cardinia Community for people of all abilities.
I am a very approachable person, so if you see me in the centre please stop and say hello.
Join us in welcoming Dean to the team!
