Cardinia Shire In partnership with Cardinia Shire CouncilOutlook VictoriaMonash HealthHeadspaceReclink, Richmond Institute, & Windana, Aligned Leisure hosted a range of online events, activities and resources to create awareness, engage and educate the Cardinia Shire community throughout Mental health Week 2020.

These free online events comprised a range of guest speakers including R U OK Day Ambassador Megan Burrow, Senior Education Manager of Richmond Institute David Bastian, Founder – Relations and Development from Sport and Life Training  Dave Burt, Parliamentary Secretary of Mental Health Harriet Shing, Head of Employment Services at Outlook Victoria Michael Upston, Community Engagement Officer at Each/Headspace Lara Gerrand, Reclink’s Founder Peter Cullen and State Manager Jason Carter. The events focused on topics such as the stigma surrounding mental health in sporting clubs, elements of self-care and were you can find the help that you or a friend may need.

Local musician Zachary Leo performed live and Cardinia Arts Society Isolation Exhibition was on display via Facebook showing off and promoting their talent. Cardinia Arts Society understands the impact art therapy has on improving mental health as it has been proven to manage behaviours, reduce stress, anxiety and increase self-esteem. Cardinia Art Society have also created a Spoonville at Lakeside and Heritage Springs and are currently doing rock drops in the community for children to find.

“We are thrilled to have partnered with such great organisations to arrange guest speakers who are passionate about supporting mental health in our community. Our aim of putting this series of events and resources together was to show that there is support out there for anyone who is not coping at the moment and that it is ok to not be ok. Under the current restrictions in Victoria, there is so much added pressure and stress on everyone in different ways which will see more people than ever before suffer from poor mental health. We hope that we were able to assist others and will continue to share positive messages and resources moving forward” said Cardinia Leisure Manager Paige Kristalyn.
