5 tips to Swim Safe

Cardinia Leisure is proud to support Life Saving Victoria’s new Swim Safe Campaign.

SwimSafe is a public education campaign targeting vulnerable adult swimmers including weak and non-swimmers, those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and those with pre-existing medical conditions or disabilities about the hazards in aquatic environments.

Since 2015 statistics have shown that 61% of both fatal and non fatal drownings have had a pre- existing medical condition and 28% of these recorded drownings were people who were born overseas. This initiative by Life Saving Victoria has been created to help educate adults of the dangers of swimming and decrease drowning rates within these demographics by getting them to fell confident to speak up when they are entering aquatic facilities.

If you are a non confident swimmer or have either a pre-existing medical condition or disability please follow these 5 ‘Swim Safe’ tips at our aquatic facilities

1. Read the safety signs

2. Enter feet first

3. Stay within your safe depth

4. Swim with a friend

5. Put your hand up for help
